Dear Delegates and California Democrats,

I am officially declaring my intent to run for Controller of the California Democratic Party. 2024 presents a clear and present danger in the fight to save our democracy. We have seen the actions of the GOP and the destruction they wreak when in power. It is imperative we spend the next year and a half ensuring we are financially fortified and ready to win. In preparing ourselves, we must elect driven leaders with steady hands and a clear vision for the future. Throughout my career I have maintained both. As a former AT&T executive and Chief Operating Officer for The Smiley Group, Inc. I acted as a key decision maker in the handling of tens of millions of dollars. In my current role, I advise an LAUSD Board Member on education policy, community outreach, and their work with the state, county, and local governments.

The defense of our democracy will require not only capable leaders, but dedicated ones. My commitment to Democratic values has spanned the course of two decades. Within the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, I have served as the Election Protection Chair, Corresponding Secretary, a member of the Finance, Anti-Harassment and Policy Committees. On the state party level, I currently serve as Chair of the Women’s Caucus, Lead Co-Chair of the JEDI Committee, and elected DNC member.

In all these positions I have defended voting rights, advocated for marginalized groups, and fought for and alongside Democrats throughout this great state. ESPECIALLY the women who overwhelmingly vote to elect Democrats cycle after cycle. When I informed some of the women closest to me of my intention to run, they pledged to stand by my side as they have countless times before. Today on this International Women’s Day, I ask that you do the same.

I believe I have what it takes to help steer this party towards a just and victorious future. That is why at the convention this May, I wish to take my experience from government, the business world, the nonprofit sector, and this party to ensure CADEM’s finances align with its platform and values. My name is Carolyn Fowler and I kindly ask for your vote to serve as the California Democratic Party’s next Controller. I want to ensure every member of this party is represented, and that we are fully prepared for the challenges ahead. Thank you.
